Welcome to the Windtunnelonians!
If you have visited this web site for the first time in response to the supplement in the December 2006 issue of Pension Update you may be wondering just what the Windtunnelonians is.
Seven or eight years ago Mike Wade, recently retired from the Wind Tunnel at BAe Warton, set up a regular, twice-a-year reunion for current and retired Wind Tunnel employees. The name created for this group was Windtunnelonians and we meet at the Kingfisher Inn on the Kirkham Bypass every first Tuesday in March and October, starting at noon and usually ending around 3pm. Most people have their lunch there and the average attendance is something like 40. Have a look at the photos! The group doesnít do anything, at present, apart from these reunions, but it acts as a means of keeping everyone in touch, principally by email and these regular gatherings so, if anyone wanted to propose or organise anything, the means is there.
Although the Windtunnelonians meetings are attended overwhelmingly by retired Wind Tunnel ex-members, current employees are encouraged to come too (thatís why it starts at noon) and anyone else with any connection with Wind Tunnel, however loose!
The web site acts as a repository of information Ė its central feature is a maintained list of email addresses, but itís also a photograph album of most of the Windtunnelonians reunions and of legacy wind tunnel photographs.
At Mike's request, and since I already ran the web site, I took over the organisation of these get-togethers recently so, if anyone has any enquiries, please get in touch!
